Oregon coast elopements have a special place in my heart. Renae and Dan stayed overnight at an Airbnb with me and woke up bright and early to catch the sunrise the morning of their elopement. The drive to Pacific City is one of my favorites and the views are those to write home about. The details of their elopement were so intricate and stunning, holding sentimental value to the both of them. Disco balls, large palm fronds and cowboy boots were only some of my favorite details of this elopement. We started on the west side of the beach for sunrise, using lanterns in the blue-hour to give some light and romance to the images. Since it was low-tide, the huge rocks that cover the beach were walkable, adding to the whole mood of the shoot. Being a Oregon Wedding and Elopement photographer has so many advantages, being able to go to the beach and see views like these. Renae and Dan ran along the beach for an hour or so with me, until we moved over to the other side of the rock that stands between the two beaches of Cape Kiwanda. On the other side, stood a beautiful floral arch designed by Wildflower Hill Floral here in Portland, Oregon. As a Portland wedding photographer, it is so important to foster community between vendors, so it was wonderful working with Hillary on the stunning display. Champagne was popped and the celebration ensued as the couple said their “I do’s.” This Oregon coast elopement inspiration was seventies romantics with large florals and the disco balls really did bring this out.

Tips for Eloping at Cape Kiwanda
Obtain Permits: Depending on the size of your elopement and specific location within Cape Kiwanda, a permit may be needed. Check with local authorities or the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department for any necessary permits or regulations. Sending them an email through their website usually works if you have any further questions. I go through this process for my clients every
Choose the Right Time of Year: It is always important to consider the weather and the season. While summer offers warm temperatures and more sunlight hours, there is also more traffic at that time at Cape Kiwanda. Spring and fall can offer slightly colder weather and will also be less crowded.
Plan for the Tides: Cape Kiwanda is known for its rocky landscape, including beautiful tide pools and strong waves. Check tide charts to make sure that you are able to access your ceremony location, especially if you’re getting married on the beach or near rock formations.
Dress Accordingly: The Oregon coast can be chilly and quite windy, even when it’s summer time. Choosing attire that is comfortable and suitable for the coastal climate is always smart and possibly bring a jacket along to cover up when it gets to be too much. Some really pretty options would be a customized wedding jacket that says something on the back of it like, “Just Married,” or opt for matching jackets that say “Mrs. and Mr.” with your last name at the end. These can look amazing in photographs as well, giving them a different look while adding something special to the two of you.
Timing: Cape Kiwanda offers spectacular sunset views, making it an ideal time for elopements. Plan your ceremony to coincide with golden hour for a truly romantic experience. You will ADORE the images that result from it.
Respect the Environment: Help preserve the natural beauty of Cape Kiwanda by following Leave No Trace principles. Pack out any trash, avoid trampling sensitive vegetation, and be mindful of wildlife habitats during your elopement.
Explore Local Accommodations: While Cape Kiwanda itself is a stunning location, nearby towns like Pacific City offer a range of accommodations for you and your guests. Research lodging options in advance to find the perfect place to stay before and after your elopement.
Personalized Vows: Take advantage of the intimate setting of Cape Kiwanda to exchange heartfelt, personalized vows. Write your own vows or work with an officiant to tailor the ceremony to reflect your love story and values. Buying aesthetic vow booklets can also add the the allure of your wedding images.
Celebrate Afterwards: Whether it’s a romantic dinner for two or a small gathering with loved ones, plan a celebration to follow your elopement. Toast to your love and the start of your new chapter together against the stunning backdrop of Cape Kiwanda. A party is always welcome when celebrating your special day.
